Just so everyone’s in the loop:

Gretchen and I are going to address the curatorial/reception end of the event. It will be in the commons and we’re working out the details.

Also, kudos again to Natalie for coming up with the preventative measure of covering the ground pre-rain to reduce soggy soil and slick slope. And a burlap material will work great to help with traction if it showers during the event.

or something along these lines.  here’s my first storyboard – making the round through the site – hitting the hot spots and moving on.  i left out the rock ritual…i will think about that after making this plan b rain board.

edward weston’s  – cabbage 

hokay.  i’ve been looking at what yuanman had posted the other day about eve ingalls work.  her forms reminded me a lot of something tortuous escaping from the ground – good energy movement of the sculptures and she an interesting use of materials.  then joan mentioned she was influenced by eva hesse – an artist that was a bright blip on the art scene during the late sixties who worked in the minimalist/post minimalist / anti-form movement…i cant say i really understand much of that but i do like her work – especially the contingent piece that i posted a few days ago. 

so what i’ve been thinking about.  i have this obsession with this energy coming out of the ground and manifesting itself as this organic energetic object but immobilized- kind of like lava but translucent in color with a skeletel underbase.  haven’t had a bit of luck going beyond that until photography class last night.  edward weston’s cabbage photo is exactly what i was thinking.  natalie suggested looking at that fabric that is used (in my words) for hippie dresses. that might be an option.

 and after seeing eva hesse’s work – i wanted to create some scrims that would also work as something like a minimalist sculptural piece and i was thinking about exoskeletens again.  having a simple straight forward form using similar materials to the cabbage idea – latex, fiberglass resin, wire, and experimenting with the type of material – cloth, etc to incorporate into the scrim.

 i made a few hand-held wire bases last night.  i posted a couple below. next i want to put a few different types of material on them and use resin to see what results.  i want to work with the idea of a ruin within a ruin so it should be rather tattered but allude to some sculpture or space or something uncovered from below.
